Vorster stays hot, Doyle breaks through, Callow's KI treble

The red-hot run of Barend Vorster extended to a rain-soaked Gawler on Saturday with a winning treble.

The leading hoop has now banked eight city winners in two weeks, riding at 42 per cent runners to winners in 2022. Vorster has moved just three wins behind Jason Holder on the Adelaide Rider’s Premiership.

Vorster recorded a double in combination with Victorian horseman Mark Webb when Miss Gobcain and Ocean Reward justified their cross-border raid while he was also aboard the Stuart Padman-trained Montign who continued his progression to make it consecutive Gawler victories.

Webb shared training honours with the Phillip Stokes stable who claimed two of the opening three races when In The Navy was successful on debut before Lady Dunmore scored. Apprentice jockey Angus Chung also walked away with a riding double on Saturday.

At Kangaroo Island, Morphettville trainer and island regular Paula Trenwith dominated with a winning treble.

Oakfield Geronimo kicked started her big day giving apprentice Jade Doyle her first win in the saddle before Stacey Callow was successful with The Ladies Man and Run.

It was a memorable day for Callow, as the talented apprentice claimed her first treble since making her riding debut in December.

Callow carried her winning form to Penola on Sunday winning aboard Mista Holyfield, while the Belinda O’Loughlin-trained Runbro claimed the third leg of the Limestone Coast Cup Series winning the Summer Cup with Dom Tourneur aboard.

Metropolitan racing returns to Morphettville on Saturday where Behemoth will run a short-priced favourite in his search for a second successive Listed Durbridge Stakes.
