167-start veteran set for retirement

Veteran galloper Flow Meter is hoping to farewell racing in style at Morphettville today.

The John Hickmott-trained veteran has had 167 starts recording 17 wins from 1200m up to 2050m and running into the placings on no less than 46 occasions throughout a career that has banked connections just shy of $700,000 in prizemoney.

Hickmott said the gelding was destined for a life of looking after his young horses.

Flow Meter ran second in a Murray Bridge Cup back in 2016 and won the Penola Cup in 2018.

He was runner-up at Flemington in June 2019 when he was sent out an $81 chance by punters.

The son of Danerich won the 2020 Strathalbyn Cup and was placed in the Onkarparinga Cup at Oakbank earlier this year.

Hickmott has enjoyed a successful end to the 2020-21 racing season with three winners already this week and saddles up eight runners over the two metropolitan meetings at Morphettville on Friday and Saturday.
